What’s the best thing you can do to stay healthy and sane this holiday sleep? According to Dr. Oz, it’s sleep! We caught up with the doc on the carpet at last week’s Z100 Jingle Ball, where he explained to us why.

“The most important thing in the holiday is sleep,” he says. “People won’t sleep at all because they have got this event and that event and then you drink a lot and that actually hinders your sleep. If you can do one thing more important than any other in the holiday season, it is making sure you get an extra half hour of sleep. That way you can drink and party and you will still be OK.”

We were surprised his stay-healthy tip wasn’t about eating right, but Dr. Oz says there’s a reason for that:

“If you sleep you won’t be as hungry,” he says. “People get hungry when they don’t sleep. They crave carbohydrates. It’s been shown study after study. I guarantee, if you sleep, you lose weight; if you don’t sleep, you gain weight.”

And with that, we’re hitting the pillow!
