Drivers carting kids fined

The Registry of Motor Vehicles and Boston Police conducted surprise inspections yesterday on 149 vans that transport day care and preschool students in Boston.

RMV spokeswoman Ann Dufresne said 123 violations and $5,300 in total fines were levied to both the drivers and transport companies.

Four operators were fined for not having the special licenses to drive the vans, which includes CORI background checks.

“This is something we do as a means of supplementing the twice-yearly inspections of these vehicles to make sure the most vulnerable population is safe,” Dufresne said.
