Drugs, firearms seized after police make arrests

Halifax Regional Police say they seized drugs and firearms after arresting a man in relation to threatening behaviour this week.

Police received reports just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday of two men in a truck following two people in a cab — allegedly with the intention of harming the people in the taxi.

“There was indications that they were going to hurt these other people,” said police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter.

Police say the truck was stopped on Quinpool Road, and two men were arrested.

A subsequent search of the suspects, police allege, revealed a butterfly knife — a prohibited folded knife that flips open.

As a result of the incident, police searched one of the suspects’ residence on the 6000 block of Cedar Street. Police say the search revealed an undisclosed amount of marijuana, hash and cocaine, as well as a loaded handgun, a shotgun and ammunition. An undisclosed amount of cash was also seized in the search.

Palmeter said both suspects were known to police, and were known by the people in the cab. He could not specify, however, the relationship between the suspects and the cab occupants.

James Arthur Williams, a 31-year-old from Halifax, appeared in Halifax provincial court Thursday to face numerous drugs and weapons charges from the alleged incident. He was remanded into police custody, and will appear in court again Friday.
