Kevin R. Powers, J.D., is the Founding Director for the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy & Governance at Boston College. With a combined 20 years of law enforcement, military, national security, business, and teaching experience, Kevin has worked as an analyst and an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Defense, prestigious law firms in Boston and Washington, D.C., and as the General Counsel for an international software company. Kevin regularly provides expert commentary regarding cybersecurity and national security issues for varying local, national, and international media outlets.

What are the program’s defining characteristics?
We emphasize leadership, critical thinking, analytic problem solving, and communication skills to prepare professionals to meet and respond to the challenges of today’s cyber ecosystem.
Who teaches the courses in the program?
Our program is taught entirely by industry leaders and experts from prominent private and government entities, with specializations ranging from cybersecurity IT, to corporate governance, risk, and compliance, to forensics and investigations. Our faculty members are shaping industry standards while working with Fortune 500 companies, federal, state, and local governments, large international law and consulting firms, and academic departments.
What skills will students learn from the program?
Students will learn how to:
• Design and implement cybersecurity strategies to help organizations protect their data, identify and manage cyber risk, and recover from cyber-attacks.
• Make the case for cybersecurity investment to senior executives and boards of directors.
• Cultivate and promote ethical principles that complement and advance company policies and government interests.
• Bridge the communication gap between IT professionals and senior business and government executives.
