If free pancakes weren’t enough to make you smile, then being able to enjoy your delicious breakfast while helping sick children should.

Tuesday is National Pancake Day, and IHOP is again offering a free short stack of pancakes in its effort to raise money for nearly 200 children’s hospitals across the country.

Breakfast lovers can enjoy a free short stack at IHOP and in return, they will be asked to consider leaving a donation for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals or other designated local charities.

Boston Children’s Hospital and Baystate Children’s Hospital in Springfield are part of the network.

Since 2006 when it started its National Pancake Day celebration, IHOP and pancake lovers have raised more than $13 million for charity. This year’s goal is $3 million.

Local IHOP restaurants include a 24-hour spot at 1850 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton and at 16 Elliot St. in Cambridge.
