Edmonton police investigate murder of two children

Edmonton homicide detectives are investigating after finding the bodies of two small children in a home on Abbottsfield Road shortly after midnight Monday.

Police received a call for a welfare check at residence near 119 Ave and Abbottsfield Road (34 Street), and upon arrival discovered the bodies to the two children.

Police were knocking on doors in the area around 1:30 a.m.

Dieudone Kalala, a resident in the area, said the police informed him of the deaths and were canvassing the area for information.

Area resident Mark Sanders was shocked at the news, saying the house has always been quiet.

“It’s a small neighbourhood but not too many of us know each other by name – just by sight,” he said.

Sanders said the police have come to the area for a few brawls.

EMS was called in to treat a 31-year-old man with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. That man is now in custody. His name and any pending charges will be released after an autopsy on the children is performed.

The autopsies of the children have yet to be scheduled.
