Despite the grey skies and drizzle, Edmontonians headed to the Butterdome yesterday for some food, fashion and fun on the last day of the Spring Craft Show.
The sale ran from April 30 to May 2 at the University of Alberta’s Butterdome at 87 Avenue and 114 Street, and had everything from gourmet spices to abstract artwork to Monkey Fart scented candles.
“I usually come for the Christmas craft show they have, but this is the first time I have come to check out the spring craft show,” visitor Rosalea Campbelle said. “I enjoy looking at all the unusual jewelry, and they have some great knitted shrugs, but they are a bit pricey.”
Many interesting food products also tempted shoppers throughout the annual craft sale.
Laurie Kitsch has been displaying her creative cookies at the craft sale since it began four years ago, and came all the way from Saskatchewan where she runs a shop called The Cookie Lady just outside of Regina.
“This is probably one of the busiest years so far,” Kitsch said.
Kitsch’s cookies are brightly coloured, and come in fun shapes for children, like the ladybug, football and pizza cookies.
“I’ve been making these cookies for about 17 years now,” Kitsch said. “The kids just love them.”
The craft sale is a unique way to display hand-made items, and many budding Canadian clothing designers, and artists take advantage of the opportunity to show off their talent.
