The 29-year-old man accused of abducting, beating and murdering a young woman in South Boston earlier this year —an attack that shook the Boston neighborhood— will be arraigned in court Wednesday morning.

Edwin Alemany has been in jail since July when he was arrested for violently attacking other women in South Boston and other parts of the city. He was indicted last month on 20 counts and will be arraigned on those charges in Suffolk Superior Court.

Alemany allegedly abducted and killed 24-year-old AmyLord as she left her Dorchester Street apartment about 6 a.m. on July 23. Authorities said she was beaten, forced into her car and then taken to ATMs around the city, where she withdrew money. Her body was later found in the Hyde Park recreation area.

During the announcement of the indictment last month, Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley called the attack “savage and brutal.”

Alemany is also charged with attempted murder for two other attacks on women in their 20s earlier this year. He also faces an armed assault with intent to murder charge for another attack on a woman about 18 hours he allegedly killed Lord.

One of the attacks on another woman happened months before Lord’s murder and led to three Boston police supervisory detectives being reprimanded after the investigation was apparently botched. The woman who was attacked was able to grab Alemany’s identification, but a detective failed to properly investigate the case and has since been demoted.

In August, Alemany allegedly tried to kill himselfwhile in jail, his lawyer said during a court appearance that month.
