Embrace your inner bad girl

Mac Cosmetics director Terry Barber offers six ways to look great.

Natural beauty
“Translucent makeup will be very popular. It’s all about wearing makeup without looking like you’re wearing makeup,” he says. “You want to go for eye shadows that look sheer, like water colour.”

Go orange
“Orange lipstick will be the real hit,” he says. It appeared on the spring/summer ‘11 runways in every possible shade, from citrus orange to saffron, and is already showing up in stores.

High and low
“Makeup is like clothes. It’s good to mix cosmetics from different brands, expensive and inexpensive,” he says.

Tackle T-zone
“Regardless of the beauty trends, your T-zone should never, ever shine. It looks terrible when it does,” he says.

Invest in prime
“Use professional primer and foundation. No matter what kind of makeup you use, it won’t go on well without it. When an artist paints a picture, he first primes the canvas, lining the surface. You must do the same with your face,” he explains.

Embrace your inner bad girl
“All of the women I’ve worked with have a little bit of a bad girl inside, and that’s why they like my makeup. It doesn’t matter if they’re stars, models or just career girls. You have to be a little bad.”
