Originally from Allentown, Pa., three-quarters of punk-rock band Pissed Jeans currently call Philadelphia home. Founded in 2004, the band signed with Seattle’s Sub Pop label — responsible for breaking grunge acts Nirvana and Soundgarden — three years later.
Pissed Jeans has since released two albums — “Hope For Men” (2007) and “King Of Jeans” (2009).
The band plays Johnny Brenda’s Saturday night, so we asked frontman Matt Korvette to share his favorite food and drink spots in Philadelphia.
1. What’s the best sandwich?
The Khyber’s fried-chicken po-boy, vegan or otherwise.
2. Your favorite bar?
L’Etage. Cozy and dark decor, always more women than men in the house, good drinks and horrible DJing. It’s also the only bar in the city where I feel confident I can beat up every guy there. Too many good nights have been had here.
Randy Huth of the Khyber and Union Transfer. Not only does he play bass in this very band, but he will keep your glass filled to the brim without you ever noticing it was gone.
4. Best place to take a first date?
I’d recommend Dave & Buster’s if you’re trying to escape a horrible OKCupid disaster, or The Level Room if you want to show off how cool you are. Plus, its close proximity to Papa John’s and a porn theater are a bonus — all the essentials are covered.

5. Your favorite music venue?
So many great ones to choose from, but I always enjoy myself at Johnny Brenda’s. Little Bar was quickly becoming my favorite spot before its untimely demise as a live music venue, though. But, soon Little Bar will be the best place to go dancing, I can just feel it.
