Netflix releases new '13 Reasons Why' teaser

And it's just as harrowing as Jay Asher's novel.

It's been more than 10 years since the publication of Jay Asher’s "Thirteen Reasons Why," a YA novel about high school drama, the weight of careless words and the impact of suicide. Today, Netflix released a teaser of executive producer Selena Gomez’s long-awaited 13-episode adaptation of the story.

The plot follows the life and more specifically, the death of Hannah Baker, a high school student who has taken her own life. Clay Jensen, a fellow classmate and secret admirer of Hannah, is the main focus though. Coming home from school one day, he finds a mysterious package with a set of 13 cassette tapes—each tape providing a name of a person and ultimately, a reason for her suicide.

Netflix’s teaser is just as chilling as the novel itself. “Why didn’t you say this to me when I was alive?” a ghost of Hannah cries.

While cassette tapes may be as old as the dinosaurs in the minds of most teenagers today, the mysterious use will captivate audiences. The good news: all 13 episodes will be released at once on March 31, so get ready to binge away.
