Actor Ed Lauter dies of mesothelioma at 74

Hollywood is bidding farewell to longtime actor Ed Lauter, who lost a battle with mesothelioma, a cancer typically caused by asbestos exposure. Lauter, who was 74, passed away Wednesday, according to Fox News.

He was a recognizable face in countless films and TV shows over the course of his five decades in the acting world. He mostly recently appeared as a butler in the Oscar-winning silent film “The Artist.”

He is also known for his roles in “The Longest Yard, “The Family Plot” and “Death Wish 3.” Lauter, a Long Island native, is survived by his wife, Mia, and four children.
