Can’t get you out of my head

Since Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” came out 10 years ago, and that la la la melody wormed its way into my brain like a roundtrip train, I have always wondered about what songs Kylie Minogue found that she could not get out of her head.

“A song that I can’t get out of my head, I tweeted just recently about Britney’s song ‘You’re About to Lose Me,’ I really do like that track,” she said today. “I’m also listening to Adele, like the rest of the world. I think she’s incredible.”

I also wondered how conscious Kylie and songwriters Cathy Dennis and Rob Davis were of the song’s earworm qualities when they were recording it.

“I don’t know that we specifically discussed that when I recorded the song with Rob and Cathy, but I’m sure we made mention of it that yeah, we can’t get it out of our heads, I mean, it’s a great play on words,” she says. “They are a couple of pop’s great writers. I knew that I wanted that song before I’d even heard the whole song. I probably got through a verse and a chorus and I was in conniptions in my A&R’s office, and I was like, ‘Please tell me this is a song we can have!’”

Minogue brings her Aphrodite 2011 Tour to the U.S. later this month.
