Friends and former colleagues are paying tribute to former ‘American Idol’ contestant Michael Johns, who died suddenly on Friday at the age of 35. After finishing seventh on season 7 of the reality show in 2007, the Australian-born rocker continued to perform around the country while also writing songs for other artists.
“To say I’m shocked and saddened is a gross understatement,” said season 7 winner David Cook in a statement. “I’m completely gutted for his family, including his wife, Stacey. I hope they can find at least some small amount of solace in the fact that he made mine and many others’ lives so much better by having known him.”
“In my opinion he was one of the best singers to come from ‘Idol.’My thoughts and prayers to his family,” said songwriter Diane Warren.
