Gabrielle Union opens up about her heartbreaking battle with infertility

Gabrielle Union — a 44-year-old actress who looks the same now as she did in 1999’s “10 Things I Hate About You” — is opening up about her fertility problems. Legitimately brave!

The “Being Mary Jane” actress reveals in her new book, “We’re Going to Need More Wine” that she has suffered multiple miscarriages in attempts to have a child with husband Dwyane Wade.

“I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” she writes in the book. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”

She also tells People that enduring questions about whether or not she wants kids is difficult and like, pretty annoying. “For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?’” she says. “A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on. People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”

Union adds that raising children with Wade, 35 (his nephew and two sons from a previous marriage) inspired her to try for her own. “I never wanted kids,” she continues. “Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.”

Union is just one of many celebrities opening up about fertility problems — from Kim Kardashian to Chrissy Teigen. Which is chill. It’s nice when celebrities use their platform for more than hawking sponsored products. Frankly, it’s inspirational.
