James Packer, a man who used to be engaged to Mariah Carey, is opening up about their relationship. Apparently, he just wasn’t in a good place when he started dating the elusive chanteuse — and he doesn’t think they were right for each other, either.
The Weekend Australian sat down with the 50-year-old, who said when he met Carey in 2015, he was billions of dollars worth of debt. He was both borrowing a ton of money to provide his sister Gretel with money left in their father’s estate, and losing money on RatPac, a Hollywood venture he shared with friend Brett Ratner. Ugh, Brett Ratner.
“I was at a low point in my personal life,” Packer said. “Brett Ratner put Mariah and me together. She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.” Oh really, sir?
The Australian billionaire declined to comment further, so nobody knows A) whether Carey kept the $10 million engagement ring, or B) whether she got that $50 million settlement from their split she reportedly asked for. Rich people and their money, am I right?
