A few days ago, news broke that Kanye West had cut ties with Jay Z-helmed streaming service Tidal. Reportedly, the split came after a $20 million dispute and Kanye’s long standing unhappiness with the music label.
But also? Turns out it’s personal. Because as both Kanye and Jay Z know, the common people deserve juicy gossip after a holiday.
TMZ claims that Jay Z is upset with Kanye for a variety of reasons. The dispute is both about money — both as previously reported and as told by lyrics on his Jay-Z’s latest album, 4:44; and also? Jay wasn’t too happy about the time Kanye went on a rant at one of his concerts, detailing Jay Z’s failures as a friend.
Kanye was admitted to the hospital for mental health treatment soon after.
“Kanye was days away from going to a psych ward with some really serious mental issues,” a source tells the site. “We get why he [Jay] was upset, but give Kanye a break.”
But apparently, Jay Z doesn’t find the whole “mental health troubles” thing to be a very good excuse. In his song “Kill Jay Z,” he basically says as much. “But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye // You gave him 20 million without blinkin’ // He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’? // ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’ // But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
OK, so first of all? As much as I never imagined myself to be some sort of low-key Kanye West apologist, it’s rude to call someone with actual mental health issues insane.
Second of all, Jay Z is 47-years-old. He now has three children. Grow up, pal! Sort it out so we don’t have to hear about this until the end of time.
