Coolio surprised a group of English university students when he randomly offered to cook them dinner at their house in Preston, Lancashire, U.K. University of Central Lancashire student Olivia Johnson-Aley posted a video on Facebook of the rapper taking a quick break to do an acoustic version of "Gangsta's Paradise."
Johnson-Aley wrote, "Met Coolio on a student night out in Preston and he said he wanted to cook for me and my house mates the following night and that's exactly what happened. We decided to take a break from the cooking and have a jam session. Most surreal night of our lives!"
The guitarist in the video wrote on Reddit about the experience: "He was playing a gig in our city, and a few of my housemates were in the VIP after party. He came back to our house afterwards, and told us that he wasn't busy that night so would come over and cook us dinner. We had Coolio's Caprese Salad, Chicken á la Daaaamn, and Peach Crumble. We also videoed a cooking show ("Cookin' with Coolio"). It was just as weird as it sounds." He added that the students went to a Tesco (a bargain supermarket chain) with the rapper and Coolio shared plenty of insight on the industry with the kids.
"He shared a lot of thoughts about his time with Tupac, including how he spoke with him the day he died. A lot of insight in to his upbringing and life on the streets. He is pretty switched on. I not only learned how to sharpen a knife last night, but a lot of deep life lessons from Coolio," wrote user lorcantc. According to the Redditor, Coolio is also not down with racism: "Coolio was actually very vocal about not focusing difference in people's skin colour after I made a joke about how white I am. He told me there's no reason a white boy can't do anything a black guy can do and I shouldn't limit myself to stereotypes."
