Dan Harmon says Rick and Morty’s “Mr. Poopybutthole” is actually a Meeseeks

In another hilarious video posted by Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland Wednesday, the duo use Rick and Morty action figures (and one of Mr. Poopybutthole) to mimick making DVD commentary.

Their purpose, it seems, is to promote a contest being held to find a fan to join them in providing DVD commentary for the third season. The winner also gets to eat szechuan sauce dipped McNuggets with the creators. Giving a donation to Planned Parenthood earns the chance to be selected.

But more earth-shatteringly, Dan Harmon, improvising as always, lets loose some interesting facts about the series.

First, an odd origin story for Mr. Poopybutthole.

“Mr. Poopybutthole, a lot of people don’t know is an adult Meeseeks,” Harmon said.

An odd relevation and one that makes very little sense — as Meeseeks are blue, and do not resemble Mr. Poopybutthole.

But the timeline of the series does allow for the possibility that he did come into being from a Meeseeks box, and him being an “adult Meeseeks” could mean his appearance is different.

However, his child, on the Season 3 finale’s kicker, did not look like a Meeseeks. So — Harmon was probably kidding.

Another inside look at the series came when Harmon revealed that often times they show characters walking, a “walk cycle from the hips up,” because it is easier and cheaper to do.

Harmon — as he does “fake commentary” forces Roiland, providing the voice of Rick and Morty, to sing a musical number and later a love scene.

The voices are on point and there are a few laugh out loud moments. And it’s for a good cause.
