Daryl Hannah, star of "Kill Bill," "Splash," and pretty much the entire 80s, is autistic, she has revealed.
The actress was diagnosed with autism as a child, and she struggled with "debilitating shyness" throughout her career. She fought to hide her condition from her Hollywood employers, and often refused to give interviews and make promotional appearances,“not because I was above it, but because I was terrified.”
Hannah says she's doing better now. She spends much of her time on environmental activism and has a boyfriend, a farm, and a pet pig. "I’ve learned a couple of things that really would’ve made my life easier if I’d known them 20 years ago," she told People.
"I wasted so much time scared, self-conscious and insecure."
It's remarkable to hear a star talk so openly about this kind of mental illness - though autism has become something of a buzzword in the last few years, it's still surprising to hear a star admit they have it. It seems like only yesterday that it seemed that stars only suffered from two things: Exhaustion and dehydration.
