Dashboard are forced to ‘Alter’ tour

Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional wasn’t expecting to start touring this month without backup. But, with a bandmate’s family emergency preventing any full-blown concerts to promote the new “Alter the Ending,” the singer/ songwriter found that going back to basics was the best way to get the album heard and get his own fix.

“I get addicted to the show experience. I was sort of feeling like I was being denied my drug,” Carrabba says. “I was feeling wistful over it. I was with my guitar in hand and it just occurred to me that I could do this.”

Still, Carrabba had to convince opening act New Found Glory to ditch their amps and come along.

“I was at their very first show; I’ve known them that long. I’ve never seen them play acoustic guitars … and I thought to myself, ‘they’d never do it’,” Carrabba remembers.

But they agreed. Carrabba is adamant, though, that “Alter the Ending” — with many heavier electric tracks — will get the full-blown sets it deserves.

“This is a placeholder,” he says of the acoustic sets.
