CBS confirmed today that David Letterman will be retiring in 2015. No successor has been announced yet, but expect feverish speculation and pie in the sky suggestions. Louis CK and Conan O’Brien seem to be Twitter’s top two choices, though the network could choose to move Craig Ferguson into the coveted spot.

Letterman, 66, has been hosting “The Late Show” since its debut in 1993 after getting passed over for the “Tonight Show” gig at NBC. Variety reports Letterman discussed the retirement during Thursday’s taping, and the news started to trickle out over Twitter. All told, he’s been on our TVs for 32 years.
