The final season of "Glee" will officially be only 13 episodes, instead of the usual 22. The show has taken a hit in ratings in recent years, and while the new season had already been announced as the final one, the episode cut is new.
The Hollywood Reporter says creator Ryan Murphy discussed the season with Fox executives and it was agreed that "the story would be best told in one final run of 13 consecutive episodes" and that Fox wants the drama's swan song to be "a big event for fans."
The show will also not return until mid-season, which might be a sign of Fox's diminishing interest in the program. Presumably the million Emmy nominations Murphy just got for "American Horror Story" and "The Normal Heart" are some comfort at this difficult time.
