The French-Canadian actress Monia Chokri is enjoying the attention being paid to her for her breakthrough performance in “Heartbeats” where she plays Marie, a Montreal hipster who falls in love with the same man as her equally-as-hip gay best bud Francis (played by writer and director Xavier Dolan).

If you had to eat at one fast food chain for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Chez Cojean in Paris, it’s an healthy fast food made by French people. Très bon!

Name one reality show you’re ashamed to admit that you love.

I’m not ashamed to watch reality shows. It’s like a trash human being study. Some of my characters were inspired from people of reality shows.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

My mom told me one day to learn to be by myself, to be able to live alone and enjoy it. Being with someone else, is not the natural way, it’s an extra in life. People are so afraid to be single, for me it’s a moment of freedom.

What’s the one question you’re constantly asked on interviews?

Are you like your character?… Well… not really… I’m an actress, that’s my job to be someone else.

What celebrity did you have a crush on as a teenager?

Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison and Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller.

Name another actor’s career that you’d like to emulate.

Judy Davis, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Isabelle Huppert… Talented and Intelligent actresses.

What is currently on your iPod that you can’t get enough of?

The album of Koudlam, a French artist.
