Life, love and threesomes straight out of fan fiction are among the themes in the latest episode of “Hemlock Grove.” There’s more where that came from in your recap!
The episode opens with Peter (Landon Liboiron), Roman (Bill Skarsgård) and Miranda (Madeline Brewer) lying in bed together, naked. You can probably guess what happened after the end of the previous episode now.
Now that we are done talking about threesomes, let’s talk about Miranda. It looks like she is having a dream similar to the ones Peter and Roman have been experiencing. In the dream, a little boy with a devil T-shirt is playing on a swing in front of his house shortly before disappearing and reappearing inside the house. Peter and Roman stand outside as another Peter and Roman run toward them to supposedly rescue the boy.
All the while, a white-masked man stands in the house behind the boy as he chants, “We are hot, hot, hot. You are not, not, not.” Miranda stands there, frightened, as Peter and Roman approach.
Shelley might no longer be a Frankenstein-ish monster
With Shelley’s (Madeleine Martin) return to Hemlock Grove, the rest of the Godfrey family is elated and they are even more shocked when they realize she is talking now. But it wouldn’t be a Godfrey family reunion if Olivia (Famke Janssen) and Roman didn’t get into a scuffle. The two face off as Olivia tries to prove how much she wants to change and be a good mother while Roman immediately debunks her.
Meanwhile, Pryce (Joel de la Fuente) shows Shelley his secret experiment, Prycilla, and reveals his intentions. Apparently Prycilla is actually going to be Shelley’s new body so she can finally live a normal human life.
Initially, Shelley is excited about this idea but realizes Prycilla is actually a living human with a soul. She doesn’t want this girl to lose her life and therefore, make Shelley into the killer she is accused of being. Pryce assures her that Prycilla is just a shell but it’s revealed to be a lie since Prycilla is actually having brain activity of her own.
Leticia and Norman learn the truth with the power of...poop
After collecting Olivia’s DNA in the previous episode, Leticia (Lisa Marcos) learns that Olivia was responsible for murdering a couple in 1965. Norman (Dougray Scott) doesn’t believe it because Olivia wasn’t even born at the time. That is strange considering he can believe his niece is a Frankenstein-looking creature.
Leticia and Norman visit Donna, the murdered couple’s daughter and only witness to the crime, in the hospital to get some answers. Just as Donna is in need of a diaper change, Leticia and Norman show Donna three photos with numerals. The mute woman freaks out upon seeing Olivia’s face and wants to let them know the woman in the photo was the one who killed her parents.
No, she doesn’t write down the number on a piece of paper to let Norman and Leticia know. Instead, she reaches into her pants and writes the number three with her own feces on the wall. Hopefully, no children watched that scene because this makes you grateful that most kids still use crayons.
While Norman is still finding the whole idea of Olivia being a murderer ridiculous, Leticia believes it and decides to tell Chasseur. Of course, Chasseur believes Leticia and he asks her and Norman if they ever heard of upirs.
Later, Norman decides to have some angry sex with Olivia. It turns out this was just a ruse so he could steal a piece of her hair from her hairbrush. Will Leticia and Norman learn the truth?
Miranda freaks out
While Peter and Roman are unspeakably awkward together the morning after the threesome, things get even weirder after Miranda tells them about her dream. The two begin to wonder how this girl just showed up and is now sharing their dreams.
Later, Peter tells Chasseur (Demore Barnes) about a stained glass window he saw in a dream. They learn it’s from an artist named Frank Bannister in Zebulon, Ohio. Additionally, Peter tells Chasseur that Roman has these dreams too which results in Chasseur’s “I’m on to you” look when he visits Roman.
Chasseur investigates the stained glass window only to discover an abandoned building. Of course, Chasseur naturally thinks this was a way to distract him from Peter and Roman’s shenanigans back in Hemlock Grove. Is it possible something happened to their dreams after the threesome?
Meanwhile, Peter and Roman analyze the dream further and learn the chant from Miranda’s dream was actually a chant for the Hemlock Diablos, the little league team. That boy and his family are in Hemlock Grove.
At the boy’s home, we learn his name is Julian and he is deathly allergic to bees. This allergy does not help matters since one of the white-masked men put a beehive in the house’s ventilation shaft.
Peter and Roman rush to the boy’s house and save his life. They see two white-masked men outside and they run after him. Peter changes into his wolf form and kills them. All of this is witnessed by Miranda, who is likely affected by her earlier confrontation with Destiny (Kahiehtiio Horn) when the young psychic had visions of blood, snakes and children when she touched Miranda’s hands.
It looks like Miranda no longer thinks this was a ploy from Destiny to get her to leave town. We see her put baby Nadia into a box and drive away with the young child as the episode ends.
More war between Roman and Olivia
Roman and Olivia have a scuffle as Roman finally learns Norman is actually his father, which made Letha his sister.
A deal with Olivia
Dr. Galina Zhelesnova-Burduk...whatever her name is... (Shauna MacDonald) makes a deal with Olivia to stop Roman’s upcoming upir-ectomy procedure only if she is put in charge of the White Tower.
Dr. Johann Pryce’s complicated doctor schlanguage translated
Pryce likes to use big words almost to the point where he’s not understandable. When he shows Prycilla to Shelley, he uses wonderful words like this:
“Her cerebral tissue is undifferentiated so I can map your brain’s neural network onto it, effectively uploading your consciousness.”
To make normal people understand, Pryce should have said this:
“You are now going to have the body of this hot, naked chick.”
