The holidays are still going strong at Longwood Gardens – at least for a few more days. Extend the Christmas merrymaking amidst more than 500,000 lights, 18-foot trees and thousands of poinsettias. The theme is fruit, so check out the sweet and juicy decorations. New this year is a floating tree display and a 12-foot fountain of lights. The lights go on at 3:30 p.m. every day.

The Pasquarello Restaurant Group — Prohibition Taproom, Bufad Pizza and Cafe Lift – is expanding out of the Callowhill area with Kensington Quarters in Fishtown (not Kensington. Maybe “Fishtown Quarters” had a bad ring to it). The combo butcher shop/bar/restaurant/classroom isn’t open yet, but you can get a sneak peek at the goods at a fried chicken pop-up at Cafe Lift. For $15, score a half chicken, one biscuit and two sides; $25 gets you a whole chicken with two biscuits and two bigger sides. It’s all over at 11 p.m., or when they run out of chickens.

In 79 CE, the Roman city of Pompeii was buried after Mount Vesuvius erupted. Gaze at over 150 artifacts from the city, including marble statues, Gladiator helmets and even body casts of the volcano’s victims. Most of the display is making its North American debut.
