Josh Brolin has never been shy about his wild youth in Santa Barbara, but did you know he even went so far as to try heroin?
“That sounds so horrible when you put it like that, but yeah, I tried heroin,” he tells The Guardian. “I mean, I never got into it and I never died from it, which is a good thing. I’ve had 19 friends who died. Most of those guys I grew up with, they’re all dead now.” As he’s gotten older, Brolin — who spent four weeks in rehab last fall for alcohol-related issues — has tempered his thrill-seeking ways. “I used to think you should try to deconstruct everything, experience everything. Just get yourself out there. But I don’t believe that anymore,” he says. “Having adventures is all very well, but an imagination can make up for all that. That’s the intelligent way to be. And it keeps you out of harm’s way.”
Brolin checked himself into a rehab facility in northern California following a pair of drunken brawls towards the end of 2013. Brolin, who was in the process of divorcing wife Diane Lane, was caught on camera by TMZ getting into a fistfight at a Santa Monica pub and a shouting match with a cab driver in a Del Taco drive-through over the course of one very unruly weekend.
