That was exactly the conundrum Kate Middleton faced back at Christmas 2011, when she was heading to the home of her new grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, for the holidays and needed to bring just the right gift. I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?” the Duchess says in a new TV documentary commemorating the Queen’s upcoming 90th birthday. “I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents and I thought, ‘I’ll make her something,’ which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney. I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table.” Sure, but these are British people. That doesn’t necessarily mean she liked it.
