Actress and singer Lea Michele is now also a published author.
In her new book “Brunette Ambition,” Michele details her journey from being a child star on Broadway to becoming the star of Fox’s hit show “Glee.” The glossy, photograph-filled book covers everything from navigating life in Hollywood to beauty and style tips.
“I just really wanted to have the opportunity to do something for my fans,” Michele tells us. “They are always asking me about health, beauty, fitness. So I wrote this book for them.”
The book also pays tribute to Michele’s singing idol Barbra Streisand; with each chapter beginning with either a quote from the singer or from one of Streisand’s iconic movie roles. “I think she is just amazing,” Michele says of her fellow singer and actress. “I remember watching ‘Funny Girl’ as a little girl and I think that she’s an amazing role model. I’ve been trying to do that for my fans.”
While Michele says that deep down she is a jeans and T-shirt person at heart, she also writes about her favorite award night looks and her red carpet beauty routine. “I really love my hair and makeup team, they’ve been with me for a long time,” she says. “When we’re getting ready for the red carpet we put on music, it’s a lot of fun.”
It’s been a busy spring so far for Michele. In addition to promoting her new book, she just released the video for her single “On My Way” from her first solo album “Louder” and voices the character of Dorothy in the animated film “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.”
“I was so happy that I had the opportunity to play Dorothy- It’s such an iconic role,” she says, noting that her favorite song in the film is “Work With Me.”
Michele pauses for a moment when asked to name three items she thought every woman should have in her closet. “Boyfriend jeans, motorcycle boots and a leather jacket,” she replied after consideration.
However, she didn’t miss a beat when asked to pick her favorite recipe in the book. “Definitely I would say the grilled cheese,” she replies instantly. “I’d eat it every day if I could.”
