More ‘Maya Rudolph Show’ might be on the horizon

After NBC aired a one-off episode of “The Maya Rudolph Show,” it seemed like that might be the end of our chances to see Maya Rudolph be funny on our TVs on a regular basis (the late, not-so-lamented “Up All Night” notwithstanding). Luckily, NBC honcho Robert Greenblatt indicated at the Television Critics Association press tour that they were “encouraged” by the ratings numbers the show put up, while another exec, Paul Telegdy, said “active discussions” were occurring, as Vulture reports. “Encouraged” means “planning to give Maya Rudolph a weekly show from now until forever,” right?

Rudolph isn’t the first celeb to try and make a variety show work on modern television (Ellen Degeneres made an attempt back in 2010), but even that four year difference is enough to give Rudolph the benefit of many people watching and live tweeting their reactions, always a desirable effect.
