Maika Monroe talks us through the Shia LaBeouf biopic Honey Boy

Maika Monroe has talked us through Honey Boy, the biopic of Shia LaBeouf that has not only been written by the actor but which he also stars in as his own father.

Monroe plays Sandra in the film, a key figure in the life of Lucas Hedges’ Otis Lort, who Shia based on himself, as the title comes from his own childhood nickname, while LaBeouf plays James Lort.

“It was pretty, it was definitely intense, but really incredible,” was Monroe’s description of the production.

“It was very cool, Shia would be getting ready, sitting in the hair and makeupyo trailer, and it was really interesting to hear him talking about the real girl that I am portraying and her influence on him and in his life, particularly when he was 21 and 22.”

“It was just so cool and something that I hadn’t had the chance to do. Talking to someone who knew this person and it was so helpful. It was really great.”

Monroe is obviously rather excited for “Honey Boy,” which is due out at some point in 2019, and also stars Noah Jupe, FKA Twigs, Martin Starr, Natasha Lyonne, Laura San Giacomo, and has been directed by Alma Har’el (LoveTrue).

As she waxed lyrical about both LaBeouf and Hedges, while she also teased that it will cover a pretty tumultuous period in the actor’s upbringing.

“I just think Shia LaBeouf is so talented, the script is amazing, and it is such a beautiful story.”

“You just get a glimpse inside of this wild life and wild job that we have, and having fame at such a young age and how it can affect you if you don’t have a stable mum or dad to turn to. It is not easy.”

“I am really excited to see it. Lucas Hedges is incredibly talented, too, and he is playing the younger Shia. I got to work with him a lot. I am really excited about this one.”

Unfortunately we’re still not exactly sure when in 2019  it will be released, although we do know that filming for “Honey Boy” has been taking place throughout the summer in Los Angeles.
