Despite being just a few weeks old, The Mandalorian has already made a huge impact on the Star Wars universe.

Not just because of Baby Yoda, who has clearly overwhelmed audiences with his cuteness. The series has also reignited interest in stories set between past installments of the Skywalker Saga. But does that mean that Disney+ is interested in a second season of The Mandalorian?

Of course they are. In fact, creator and executive producer Jon Favreau is already hard at work on the second season of The Mandalorian, which suggests that these brand new episodes might actually arrive on Disney+ in November, 2020, a year after the debut of the first season.

Favreau took to Instagram to confirm he was already shooting the second season of The Mandalorian back in November, posting a very, very cool image to do so.

In September, Favreau revealed that he would be directing one episode of its second season, too, as he was too busy directing The Lion King to oversee any installments in the first season.

“We’re working on season 2, writing, prepping with the directors and getting ready to direct myself, actually,” Favreau told Entertainment Weekly. “I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I’ll step in for one of them.”

There’s a chance that another director could be Rian Johnson, the filmmaker behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi, who has already stated his interest in helming an episode of the second season of The Mandalorian.

“Hell yeah,” Johnson told Cinemablend after being asked that very question. “Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!

But while Star Wars fans will be pleased to learn that a second season of The Mandalorian is already in production, they’ll be even more ecstatic with the revelation from Disney’s chief creative officer Alan Horn that there could be a feature film for Pedro Pascal’s titular gunfighter and bounty hunter.

The Mandalorian is already proving to be a big thing,” Horn told Variety. “So if that series proves to be so compelling that we reverse engineer it into a theatrical release, a two-hour film or whatever, O.K.”
