The social media takeover continues as MTV has stated it will announce the nominees for the 2013 Video Music Awards via Instagram and Vine videos.

According to Mashable, the network hired stop-motion animation creator Khoa Phan to create eight different works of VMA-related content. Phan had previously worked with Snapple and Peanuts Worldwide to create similar types of videos.

Today at 8 a.m., MTV unveiled the nominations for Video of the Year. Each hour, MTV will post additional Instagram and Vine videos highlighting the nominees for additional categories.

In addition to Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan, other video of the year nominees were Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” featuring T.I. and Pharrell, and “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift.

Currently Timberlake and rap group Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis are leading the pack with six nominations each. Right behind them is singer Bruno Mars with four noms. Other artists with multiple nominations reveal an eclectic mix: P!nk, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

This isn’t the first time MTV has used the platforms to announce news relating to the awards. In March, the network used Instagram to reveal this year’s show location as Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, adding the hashtag #RoadToTheVMAs.

MTV’s 30th annual Video Music Awards will air live Aug. 25 at 9 p.m.
