Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige to star in The Wiz: NBC
Four months ago NBC announced plans to bring The Wiz to life in a live television performance of the musical. On Wednesday, the network announced two additions to the cast.
Queen Latifah will be playing the role of The Wiz herself, and Mary J. Blige will be playing Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West! Additionally, Stephanie Mills is set to join the cast as Auntie Em.
Metro was so excited about it that we made a dream cast list. So far we haven’t’ gotten any of them right, but we’re still super stoked.
Here’s our original vision:
Zoe Saldana as Dorothy
Janelle Monae as the Scarecrow
John Legend as the Tin Man
Pharrell as the Lion
Jennifer Hudson as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South
Chris Rock as the Wizard
Queen Latifah as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West
Diana Ross as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North
Tracee Ross as Aunt Em
Eddie Murphy as Uncle Henry
So far the only cast member we’ve guessed half correctly was Queen Latifah!
