If you were quick enough to nab your tickets for Newport Folk Festival — seems like they went faster than ever this year — then we have a feeling you're in for a treat. This summer's lineup is stacked with veteran folkies and fresh talent alike. We've rounded up just a few of the artists on this year's bill that we're excited to see.
Kingsley Flood | Friday
We’re psyched to see a Boston act that is not Amanda Palmer (though, yeah yeah, she’ll be there too) repping it up in Newport this year. And we’re even more psyched that it’s a band this good. The winner of last year's Boston Music Award for Best Americana Act has been weaving a fine tapestry of country, folk, and Americana since 2009, and they just keep getting better. Get there early on Friday to catch their set.

Shovels and Rope | Saturday
This previously under-the-radar Charleston, S.C. duo have been garnering all kinds of props lately. Comprised of sometimes solo performer Cary Ann Hearst and her husband Michael Trent, they make music as fundamental and earthy as their name implies.
Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls | Saturday
UK singer Frank Turner has roots firmly in the punk scene but there’s something elemental and right about his gradual evolution to folk music. Turner’s lyrical style has always been bare-boned, and evocative in its simplicity.
Avett Brothers | Saturday
No offense to the Lumineers, but these North Carolina bros are the big name we’re most excited for. The duo could be credited with kickstarting the wave of indie-folk that has swept the music scene of late; they've been quietly making pretty-as-hell folk for years.
Lord Huron | Sunday
If you're not familiar with this Michigan solo-cum-full band, you will be soon. Their debut LP "Lonesome Dreams" dropped just last year and, if its lilting vocals and expansive, atmospheric harmonies are any indication, promises good things to come.
