Find out what will be coming down the runways next year at Emerging Trends (Holy Apostles Ballroom, 296 Ninth Ave.). For the event’s first time at NYC Fashion Week, designers will present brief showcases, and if you see something you like you can buy it at the event using your smartphone. Networking is encouraged, so bring your portfolio. $35-$100, Sept 4, 7 p.m.
This might be the only fashion show preoccupied with what we wear underneath our stylish duds. Burlesque Boudoir at Opus 51 (51 Gansevoort St.) is a lingerie fashion show featuring the designs of the U.K.’s Louise Ferdinand and Steve Boi, with cocktails and luxury swag because it’s wouldn’t be a proper event otherwise. Duane Park’s dancers will provide the entertainment. $50-$250, Sept. 4, 6 p.m.
Refinery29, the lifestyle blog that makes fashion look oh-so-easy-breezy, is hosting Brand Assembly for a glimpse at what's next from emerging designers, with music fromDJ Alexandra Richards, wine and, of course, first crack at the collection. New Jersey’s own organic bakery Royal Cake Design Studio is partnering with designer Michael Costello to put on the first-ever Cakes & Couture Fashion Show, arguably the city’s most delicious red carpet affair. Edible, life-size replicas of Costello’s Spring 2015 designs (his other recent project: costumer for Beyonce’s On the Run Tour) will be on display during the party at 404 NYC, but don’t fret — they’ll be divvied up to take home at the end of the night. $220-$480, Sept. 12, 7 p.m.
Hang with the woman who probably has more outfits in her back catalog than anyone else at Fashion Week. Barbie was the style inspiration for CFDA designers, who will reveal their creations at the Barbie Fashion Lounge (14th Street and Ninth Avenue). Free, Sept. 5-6, 11 a.m.
