Quiz: How well do you know your scary movies?

Fall film season is upon us, and we all know what that means: Bring on the scary movies!

After an early run of “The Conjuring,” we officially kicked off the Halloween fun last month with 2011’s indie home invasion flick, “You’re Next.” Other —more commercial — fright-night delights that are slated for release in the coming weeks include “Insidious: Chapter 2” (Sept. 13) and a remake of 1976’s “Carrie” (Oct. 18).

Sadly, there’s not a new chapter of “Paranormal Activity” until the fifth installation hits big screens in 2014. But that’s OK: We have another chapter of 2011’s “Insidious”! You remember “Insidious,” don’t you? It’s the one with the creepy little child who … no, wait, there’s a haunted old mansion that … hang on, a family moves to an eerie small town …

OK, so maybe we’re not all so clear on what happened in “Insidious” — and maybe that’s because we never really knew why it was called that. (We humbly suggest that it should have been called “The Further,” which is the name of the supernatural otherworld referenced in the film.)

Actually, scary movies with obscure titles makes it very hard to keep track of which is which. More importantly, generic names make it all too easy to get confused about the franchise mythology (when it’s there at all).
