Paul Walker was best known for his role in the “Fast and Furious” movies, but he was also an avid volunteer and visited Chile, Haiti and Indonesia in addition to areas of the U.S. hit by disaster like Tuscaloosa, Ala. Organization Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW) released a video of Walker volunteering for disaster relief all around the world.
Walker worked with organization ROWW from 2010 to 2013; he was one of the founders and decided to set up the non-profit after he noticed a demand for skilled volunteers in post-disaster situations when he volunteered for earthquake relief in Haiti. The video of Walker shows him setting up syringes, riding a helicopter and providing water filters to those in need.
ROWW is made up of people who have first responder skills, like project management, logistics, heavy equipment operation, EMT, paramedic, firefighting and healthcare. ROWW’s philosophy is that “by making a difference in just one person’s life, the world has been changed for the better,” according to its website.
The video closes with a moving firsthand account from Walker. He says, “I’ve looked fathers in the eye and they’re holding their kids and begging for help. I can imagine how that feels. They’re desperate they’re looking to a stranger asking for help. It’s hard to talk about but it’s stuff like that, that gets you.”
