Sci-fi movie “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” hung on to the top spot at the weekend box office for the second week in a row, according to studio estimates released yesterday.
The revival of the “Planet of the Apes” franchise pulled in an estimated $27.5 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters over three days, distributor 20th Century Fox said.
Civil Rights-era drama “The Help” finished a strong second with $25.5 million in domestic ticket sales over three days. Horror flick “Final Destination 5” landed in third place with $18.4 million.
“Final Destination 5” was released by Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc. Walt Disney Co. distributed “The Help,” which was produced by DreamWorks.
