The day we’ve been bracing for is coming: Shake Shack’s flagship location will be closing for maintenance work until mid-2015 on Monday.
Columbus Day will be your last chance for edible Concrete in Madison Square Park — and you can get a Michelin-starred chef’s special with it. Italy’s Massimo Bottura will put his native cuisine know-how to use on a burger of Pat LaFreida beef ground with parmigiano reggiano, cotechino sausage, salsa verde and balsamic mayonnaise made from grapes grown in Italy.
According to Shake Shack, no less a cooking icon than chef Mario Batali calls Bottura “the Jimi Hendrix of Italian chefs.” We don’t think that means he uses his right-handed spatular with his left.
The Emilia burger will be a one-day affair, limited to 1,000 servings priced at $8.95 and only available at Shake Shack’s flagship restaurant. Our tip: Trust the skills of the man who just released a cookbook titled “Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef.”
