And then there were six. Season 11’s dancers opened the show with a hip-hop performance to N.A.S.A’s “Hide.” It was a big night on stage as the Top 6 got to dance with each other, All-star partners and perform a solo routine.
Jacque and all-star William (Season 4) performed an emotional contemporary dance to Sleeping at Last’s “99 Red Balloons.” Jacque began the opening section with a giant red ball. She moved so naturally and smoothly with the ball, which is a testament to her focus on stage.
Jacque and Zack did a snazzy foxtrot. The technique in this dance is to not look at your partner when dancing close together and these two seemed to have a litter trouble with that. Overall this performance was a little rough around the edges.
Jessica and all-star Ade (Season 5) performed a colorful jazz routine about a couple taking the dance floor at a club and danced to Steve Aoki’s “Boneless.” Considering Jessica’s never been to a club, she executed the dance wonderfully. However, it felt as though she was so focused on the steps, she forgot to connect to her character and Nigel was a bit disappointed.
Ricky and all-star Anya (Season 3) did the cha-cha to Shakira’s “Dare.” Anya is a Latin Ballroom icon but Ricky had no problem keeping up. His stance was strong and his feet were fast. It seems there is no challenge too tough for Ricky. Ricky and Valerie did a fun yet elegant Broadway dance to Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got the World on a String.”
Valerieand Twitch performed a hip-hop routine about a newly wed couple sharing their first dance, but this was not your average wedding. They did the routine to Usher’s “Yeah!” This performance really showcased Valerie’s ability to cope with different genres.
Casey and all-star Makenzie (Season 10) did a contemporary routine about a couple’s last day together and danced to Ingrid Michaelson’s “Over You.” Casey’s technique was flawless and Mary called it the performance of a lifetime. Jessica and Caseyperformed a fun and sexy disco routine. It was a tough routine to execute but they made it look easy.
Zack and all-star Fik-Shun (Season 10) performed a hip-hop routine to Awolnation’s “Sail.” Their performance was like a big game of Twister and Zack did surprisingly well holding his own with last year’s male champion.
The good news is we’re one step closer to finding Season 11’s winners; bad news is two more dancers had to head home. Eliminated this week were Casey and Jacque. That means Ricky, Valerie, Zack and Jessica are our finalist. The last four dancers will have their scores from this week and next week combined to determine the ultimate winner.
