The Word: Stephen Baldwin might go to jail

Stephen Baldwin hasn't been paying his New York income tax. They prefer that you do that.

If Stephen Baldwin doesn't come up with a large amount of cash soon, he might be headed for prison.

Baldwin appeared in court in Rockland County, N.Y., to address the $300,000 he owes in back New York taxes. According to Page Six, the state is attempting to agree to a repayment schedule with the wayward Baldwin brother, but unless he ponies up a large chunk of what he owes soon, he could get thrown in jail.

No need to feel too sorry for him, though: It sounds like this is probably his own fault. He admitted to the court earlier this year that he hasn't paid state income taxes for three yearsbecause, he claims, his accountants told him not to.“Unfortunately, I got some really bad suggestions and advice ... from lawyers and accountants.”

Where does one even find an accountant who says it's OK to just not pay taxes? Tea Party Accountants 'R Us? Just don't get your taxes done by someone dressed like Thomas Jefferson.
