Scottish singerSusan Boyle has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism, saying a specialist diagnosed her over a year ago.

“I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me,” Boyle said in Sunday’s interview with the Guardian newspaper, noting that the learning difficulties she had as a child was a result of the brain damage suffered through oxygen deprivation at birth. “Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”

Boyle rocketed to fame in 2009 on “Britain’s Got Talent.” Since then, her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream” became thebest-selling debut album of all time in the UK and has sold over 19 million albums. She’s been nominated for two Grammys, sung forPope Benedict XVI,and has a net worth reportedly in the tens of millions. But the pressures of fame haven’t always been easy for Boyle — she’s been treated for nervous exhaustion in the past and has suffered through some not-so-media-savvy appearances which she now chalks up to her diagnoses. “I would say I have relationship difficulties, communicative difficulties, which lead to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient, that would help,” she told the newspaper.
