Kate Hudson: Witchy woman

Kate Hudson doesn’t know the gender of her new baby, but she’s got a good idea, thanks to a “witchy” technique called the pendulum test. “You take a piece of your hair, and you take a ring. ... And you string it through. And then what you do is you hold it over your stomach,” she explains to Entertainment Tonight. “And [if it moves in] a circle, it’s a girl, and a boy, [the pendulum] goes back and forth.” Hudson says she’s performed the test a few times, and the ring always indicates a girl. The actress also has a 7-year-old son, Ryder.

Hopkins knows what you’re thinking

Despite photos surfacing of Josh Hopkins frolicking on the beach with “Cougar Town” co-star Courteney Cox and her daughter, Coco, Hopkins insists there’s no relationship there, though he can see where people might get the idea. “I would admit, if I saw that [photo] somewhere, [I’d think], ‘Those two must be dating. They’re in St. Barts.’ I get it,” he tells Access Hollywood. “There were a lot of people with us. But the only ones you see, they just frame us two. So it’s a story. And it’s not true.”

The judge of judges

Despite the fact that Mariah Carey is about to give birth to twins, Simon Cowell is expecting the singer to get to work soon on the U.S. edition of “X Factor,” he says during a radio interview. “I think Mariah will have a role on the live shows. I met her recently and she was on great form,” Cowell says of Carey, who was originally in line to be a judge on the show before her pregnancy. “Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with,” Cowell says. “She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.”
