The best of Broadway, bite-sized and outdoors

Now in its second week of the 2010 season, Broadway in Bryant Park, presented by 106.7 Lite FM, continues to bring the shows of the Great White Way out into the Midtown green space, free of charge.

Tomorrow’s event features songs performed by the casts of this year’s Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, “Memphis,” as well as “South Pacific,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and 2009 Tony-winner “Billy Elliot.” In addition, the Rockettes will take the stage for a little Christmas in July cheer.

The performances, beginning at 12:30 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 12, draw between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors each week, says Clear Channel Director of Marketing Darren Pfeffer. “It built up organically,” he says of the series, now in its 10th season. “We try to get the best of Broadway for our listeners, New Yorkers and tourists. And there’s no better place to showcase that than Bryant Park.”
