The Word: The steamy ‘Reign’ scene the CW won’t let you see

The CW is pretty much the broadcast home for teen debauchery, but apparently there are some lines it still won’t cross.

In the new CW show “Reign,” the pilot sent to critics apparently included a scene of female masturbation. However, the CW thought better of it, and in the first episode that aired last night the scene had been considerably trimmed.

The offending scene takes place after the queen and her handmaidens witnessed an arousing bedding ceremony – a wedding night, in other words – and then scatter throughout the castle to, you know, take care of business. One, Kenna, finds a secluded stairwell, hikes up her skirt, and goes to town, until the King of France comes to lend a hand.

The scene is still in the final cut, according to Entertainment Weekly, but it’s been shortened quite a bit, and most of Kenna’s maneuvering now happens demurely out of frame. However, the pilot still includes a shot of a recently decapitated head spurting blood. Presumably in a different scene, unless Kenna’s a freak even for a CW show.
