Leah Remini has followed through on her threat to Scientology and filed a missing persons report for Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige. But just hours later, the LAPD announced the case was closed, saying Shelly's not missing after all.
"The LAPD has classified the report as unfounded, indicating that Shelly is not missing," detective Gus Villanueva confirmed to E! Online. He explained that at some point during their investigation, the police had met with Shelly face-to-face.
Score one for Scientology, I guess, who had already called Remini's missing persons report "harassment."
"It is a publicity stunt cooked up by a small band of unemployed fanatics who live on the fringe of the Internet," a rep for Scientology said. "The Church and the attorney for Mrs. Miscavige have already responded to this ludicrous claim."
I'm glad Shelly's apparently (at least somewhat) OK. But if I ever disappear for six years, my friends are welcome to get as ludicrous on my behalf as they want.
Now that Remini has left the ranks of the famously closed-mouthed Church of Scientology, she has no intention of censoring herself.
Remini still has family members in the church, but that didn’t deter her decision to leave. “It doesn’t matter, it could be anything. I thought about the family being broken up for some other cause, and I’m not about to shut up,” she toldPeople.
