British actor and comedian Stephen Fry has always been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder. But he's now admitting just how desperate those struggles got in 2012, when he attempted to kill himself.
"I take medication so I won't get either too hyper or too depressed and attempt suicide. I'll go as far as to tell you I attempted it last year," he said on Richard Herring's podcast.
According to the Telegraph, Fry attempted to overdose in a hotel room. "I took a huge number of pills, a huge amount of vodka, and the mixture of them made my body convulse so much that I broke four ribs."
Fortunately, the producer for the project he was filming found him and got him to an ER. He says he's doing fine now.
Fry isn't the only celebrity in the news for attempting suicide. Paris Jackson, the 15-year-old daughter of late pop star Michael Jackson, was rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital Wednesday after an apparent suicide attempt, her mother, Debbie Rowe, told “Entertainment Tonight.”
Paris, the second of Jackson’s three children, had “a lot going on (lately),” Rowe told the celebrity news show.
“We appreciate everyone’s thoughts for Paris at this time and their respect for the family’s privacy,” an attorney for Rowe said in a statement.
