Miley Cyrus released her new video for her party anthem "We Can't Stop" yesterday. Full of dirty dancing and making out, the video is a clear declaration of adulthood from the former Disney child star - a very specific phase of adulthood, in fact: the Williamsburg phase.
The video is hipster bingo, in other words. Its director seems determined to grab every signifier of urban cool and stuff it into Miley's house party. We've got American Apparel-esque writhing in leotards! Polaroid-y overexposure! Ironic fur coats! Shaved temples on girls! It's so overstuffed with signifiers of hip that it seems like Miley must be in on the joke. It's pretty funny regardless.
Last week, Miley Cyrus became the latest bystander to be hit by Amanda Bynes’ rapid fire Twitter insults. “@mileycyrus ur ugly,” Amanda tweeted. However, pop star Miley has no plans to sink to Amanda’s level – although she did aim a mild jab Amanda’s way, suggesting that the troubled star is trying to piggyback on Miley’s Twitter fame.
“I was rooting for her comeback until she started attacking me, and I just thought it was hilarious that she mentioned my name the moment I was the worldwide trending topic on Twitter,” Miley said in an interview onHot 99.5.
