TV watch list, weekend, Jan. 2-4: ‘Downton Abbey’ returns
PBS

Alert the staff: The adventures of your favorite British aristocrats resume again this weekend. And so does other new TV! Yay! Hope you completed all your holiday binge-watching.

‘Downton Abbey’

The family finds its worldview shaken once more when England elects a prime minister who (gasp!) does not come from a noble background. Lord Grantham discovers that this development gets him treated a bit differently in town.

Sunday, 9 p.m., PBS

‘The Good Wife’

Cary decides he needs to get some help from a prison consultant to help him out. He should call Piper Kerman, the “Orange Is the New Black” lady. She seems to have some pretty insightful things to say about that whole process.

Sunday, 9 p.m., CBS

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

Everyone goes away for the weekend at Charles’ beach house. Is the beach house somewhere tropical, or does this show exist in an alternate world where it’s warm out right now? Jake ruins everything, per usual, by inviting Holt. We are also promised the prospect of drunk Santiago, which sounds pretty entertaining.

8:30 p.m., FOX

NFL Playoffs: Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

We thought we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that the NFL playoffs are getting started this weekend, so if that’s more your thing than “Downton,” you can get your game face on for the (first) big game instead.

Saturday, 8 p.m., NBC
